Louise (Luise) Langhans, nŽe Japha, was born in Hamburg and died in Wiesbaden, Germany. She studied piano with Robert and Clara Schumann in Dusseldorf where she also studied composition. Considered a great pianist during her lifetime, she published (under both names Japha and Langhans) works for the keyboard, voice, chamber ensembles, an opera, and made arrangements of works by other composers, including Richard Wagner and Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842). J. Schuberth & Co. originally published the Sieben KlavierstŸcke, op. 36, in Leipzig in 1902, included in the HPC #02001.
