Jane Torry Sloman

1824 - ?

Born in England, Jane Torry Sloman came to America as a teenager, where she embarked on a successful concert career as a piano prodigy. She is said to have played opera overtures on the piano at age five, and also started to compose at an early age. Sloman wrote many songs, solo piano pieces, and also published The Melodist, a collection of vocal works by herself and others, designed for use in schools for young women.
