Jane Vieu

1871 - 1955

Vieu was a French composer who also published under the pseudonym "Pierre Valette." Her 100 works include orchestral, operatic, chamber, piano, and vocal music. In addition to her own compositions, she wrote a solfge manual. Her publishers included Enoch, Ricordi, Hackette, and Vieu (a publishing company called Maurice Vieu and Jane Vieu). Vers le Rve, published by Enoch in 1903, is available once again in the Hildegard collection of music for cello and piano (#09884). For further information, see "Women Composers: Music Through the Ages," volume VII and #09748 and #02035 for her vocal music.
