Hildegard is proud to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Sounds Abound to distribute the complete catalog of music by American composer, Mable Bailey. Bailey’s music is firmly rooted in classical tradition but infused with jazz idioms and a playful spirit.
Bailey’s work Prankster was included in Hildegard’s ground-breaking volume, Black Women Composers: A Century of Piano Music. Soon, Bailey’s full body of works will be available through Hildegard Publishing.

Mable Bailey was born in Canton, Mississippi, and moved to Oakland, California, with her family as a child. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1963 with a double major in education and music. She began to compose while she was a graduate student at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, and studied composition at the College of Holy Names in Oakland, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and the University of Denver. She taught in the Denver Public Schools from 1976 until her retirement. Bailey composes choral, vocal, and instrumental music.

The first three editions are being prepared now. Many more editions will follow.
The first editions slated for release are:
- Bee Suite (for brass trio)
- Kinda Blue (for flute and piano)
- Child’s World (for voice and piano)
