Amélie-Julie Candeille (1767 - 1834)
By the time Candeille was fourteen, she had appeared publicly as a singer, pianist, and harpist. Not content simply to be a musician, however, Candeille took up acting, making a sensation as the star performer, playwright, and composer in her debut at the Théatre Francaise in 1792. Involved in a series of affairs as well as divorced from her first two husbands, Candeille died shortly after her third husband's demise, having worked as an instrumentalist, singer, actress, composer, librettist, and author.
