Binnette Lipper (1939 - 2016)
Binnette Lipper was a composer of chamber music, vocal works, and orchestral scores. She received her musical education at Hunter College (NY) and The Juilliard School. Her compositions have been performed extensively throughout the New York area and in other parts of the United States, as well as in Russia, Armenia, Bulgaria, and Canada. Lipper was on the faculty of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York for many years, teaching piano and composition. She is a recipient of four Meet-the-Composer grants, an American Music Center grant, and numerous commissions. Her Sonata for Piano, No. 3 was performed in Moscow's Queen Catherine Palace Concert Hall in January 2000. Binnette passed away in 2016 after a several year battle with ALS.
