Kassia (810 - between 843 and 867)

Kassia is the earliest woman in the history of music for whom preserved music has been found A nun from Thesaloniki, she was a gifted composer and poet of sacred and secular works. Kassia also wrote music for hymns, the words of which were written by other contemporary hymnographers.
