Marie Grandval (1830 - 1907)

Marie Grandval started to study piano at the age of six, and several years later was studying composition under the guidance of composer Fredrich Flotow, a close family friend. After marrying, Grandval resumed her musical education, studying with Camille Saint-Saƫns. She wrote music for chamber ensemble, orchestra, theater, church, and secular vocal ensemble, and had considerable success in all genres.
