Marie Jaëll (1846 - 1925)
Marie Jaëll Trautmann was born in Steinseltz, a small village near Strasbourg, France. She began concertizing at an early age and was awarded a First Prize from the Paris Conservatory at sixteen. Four years later she married the already well-known pianist Alfred Ja‘ll. They made Paris their home and toured together, composing, playing four-hand, two-piano, solo and ensemble literature until he died fifteen years later. In addition to composing over eighty works and performing almost the entire body of standard Romantic piano literature, Marie Jaëll dedicated her last years to researching piano technique.
