Rachel Eubanks (1922 - 2006)

Rachel EubanksRachel Amelia Eubanks was born in San Jose, California. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, her master's degree from Columbia University and a D. M. A. from Pacific Western University. In the summer of 1977 she studied with Nadia Boulanger at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France. She was the founder and president of the Eubanks Conservatory of Music and Arts in Los Angeles, which has been in operation since 1951. Her compositions include songs, choral and instrumental chamber works, a cantata for chorus and orchestra, and Symphonic Requiem for orchestra and four solo voices (1980). Her Interludes for Piano, Nos. 1 and 5 were recorded by Helen Walker-Hill on Kaleidoscope: Music by African-American Women (Leonarda Records LE 339). Kiép Nào Có Yeu Nhau is one of several settings of Vietnamese folksongs composed by Eubanks.
