About Ruth Schonthal:
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Ruth Schonthal studied at the Conservatory Stern Berlin, the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, the National Conservatory in M. Ponce, Mexico, and at Yale University with Paul Hindemith. She has taught composition at New York University and at the State University of New York in Purchase. Her prizes include Meet the Composer and ASCAP awards, a Kennedy Friedham Award, the 1994 International Heidelberger KŸnstlerinnnen Preis, and a Certificate of Merit from Yale University. She was a finalist in the New York City Opera contest. She has written operas, ballets, symphonic works, choral works, concerti for piano, horn, harp, and electric guitar, chamber music, string quartets, and works for solo instruments.
