Farrenc’s Nonet, Op. 38 was originally written for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello and bass. The composer herself subsequently arranged the for string quintet. This monumental work is composed in a romantic style with prominent melodies and clear-cut forms.
