Louise Farrenc enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a pianist, composer, and pedagogue. The Première Ouverture, Opus 23, was composed in August, 1834. It is an evocative and dramatic work. None of Farrenc’s orchestral music, including this work, were published during her lifetime.
