Extra Publication Resources
Credo: Bonds, Margaret (492-00228)
The following extra resources are available for this publication.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is an erroneous list of errata circulating from the Northeast of the United States. There are significant errors, mistaken rhythms and mis-interpretations of Bonds’ manuscripts on that list. If you received that list, we strongly recommend that you disregard it.
The following are the errata for the first and second printing of the piano/vocal score of Credo. All errata listed have been corrected in the third printing of this publication. Scores are marked with the date of printing at the bottom of the last page of music.
Errata:
After initial publication, errors were identified in the edition:
- Page 3, m. 22: The bass note should be a C natural. [corrected on 2nd printing]
- Page 11, m. 84: There is an error in the text on page 11. See here for the correct text underlay. [corrected on 2nd printing]

- Page 28, m. 229: The last note in the first soprano part should be G rather than A. [corrected on 3rd printing]

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: On page 12, m. 87, should the note in the left hand of the piano be D rather than E to match the choral basses?
A: No, the E is correct and is indicated in the orchestral parts.
Q: On page 21, m. 187 – In the vocal score the 32nd figure in the piano RH occurs on beat 2. In the orchestral version, the full score has bassoon playing on 4th beat; Which is correct?
A: They are both correct. Bonds wrote the piano/vocal version first. In this original/earliest version, Bonds put the 32nd figure on beat 2. When she later orchestrated “Credo”, she gave the figure to the bassoons and put it on beat 4 in measure 187. If performing the work with piano accompaniment, the piano/vocal score is correct with the figure on beat 2. If performing the work with orchestra, playing the figure on beat 4 (and changing the choral lines to match) would be authentic to Bonds intent.
Q: On page 28, m230, should the notes in the sop II part (Peace) be A to match other similar repetitions of this phrase?
A: No, the sop II note on the latter part of Peace is G in m230 and is correct as printed.
Q: On page 36, m. 277-278, should the note in the bass part be C# to match the soprano part?
A: No, the two parts have different notes in the manuscript. The C natural for the sopranos in m. 278 is correct as printed.
Q: On page 45, m. 380, should the bass note on beat be an E rather than an F# as in the piano?
A: No, an F# is indicated for the basses in the manuscript.
