Description

Movement 1 from Fire in the Garden: A Climate Change Trilogy

Commissioned by the Cantilena Women’s Chorus under the direction of Jennifer Kane and premiered in 2021 in Arlington, Massachusetts.

This work presents a poignant narrative on humanity’s role in the climate crisis, weaving together voices predominantly from women, each offering a distinctive perspective on our relationship with the environment. Conductors are encouraged to consider conducting all three movements together, or excerpting single movements at their discretion.

The first movement, “Our House is on Fire,” draws from the impassioned words of Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish activist whose stark words serves as a wake-up call amidst escalating environmental peril.
