Description
Trio No. 2 for piano, violin and cello
The first movement of the Trio is in sonata form. It is in E flat major and contains two contrasting themes. The opening phrase is in unison followed by the second phrase in chordal texture. Grandval not only gives us textural variety but variety in timbre with the cello playing the second theme. The second movement is a Scherzo in G major in 6/8 time. The opening is reminiscent of the Scherzo in the Saint-Saens G minor piano concerto in its rhythmic and melodic thrust.
