Description
Movement 2 from Fire in the Garden: A Climate Change Trilogy
Commissioned by the Cantilena Women’s Chorus under the direction of Jennifer Kane and premiered in 2021 in Arlington, Massachusetts.
This work presents a poignant narrative on humanity’s role in the climate crisis, weaving together voices predominantly from women, each offering a distinctive perspective on our relationship with the environment. Conductors are encouraged to consider conducting all three movements together, or excerpting single movements at their discretion.
The second movement, “Who Can Utter,” asks for humility. Texts from the Bible and Denise Levertov evoke introspection, acknowledging our culpability in the climate crisis.
