The #BlackLivesMatter movement continues to highlight the need for awareness, action, and change. In the world of classical music, composers and performers of color have historically been underrepresented on the concert stage, on music faculties and in the standard literature. We at Hildegard Publishing are continuing our commitment to make music by black women composers more widely available to performers and educators.
Black Women Composers Collections:
In the past several years, we have seen a marked increase in sales of our Black Women Composers Collections as musicians at all levels are adding more diversity to their libraries and repertoire. During the month of June, we will again donate $5 from each sale of these publications to CAAPA (Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts).
We invite you to join us in supporting this organization or donating to a program in your own community that is working to end racism and discrimination towards citizens and musicians of color.
Throughout the year, we are prioritizing projects and new publications of works by black women composers. We continue to release new publications by Margaret Bonds since the launch of our Margaret Bonds Signature Series.
