Description
Introduction by Adrienne Fried Block. Score/parts.
This quintet, inspired by Beach’s 1900 performance of Brahms’ Op. 34, bears many similarities to the work of Brahms. It is a little smaller in scale and concept, but it stands up alongside them without apology. During Beach’s lifetime, the work had well over forty performances, in dozens of cities, over the radio, and by many string quartets. A large number of those performances were with the composer at the piano. Numerous recordings attest to the work’s staying power.
