Bianca Maria Meda
ca. 1665 - after 1700
Meda was a Benedictine nun in the convent of San Martino del Leano in Pavia. Her only collection, Motetti a uno, due, tre, quattro, survives as a testament to the popularity of the solo motet in late seventeenth century Lombardy. Meda's work, largely through its vocal virtuosity, addresses such issues as the role of music in the expression of spirituality, especially from the composer's perspective as a nun.
