Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre

ca. 1664 - 1729

Elisabeth Jaquet de La Guerre was a popular Parisian harpsichordist and composer. King Louis XIV granted her permission to dedicated her compositions to him, a highly-sought privilege she continued to enjoy until the king's death in 1715. Though she retired from public performance in 1717, her reputation remained undimmed even after her death in 1729. For further information, see "Women Composers: Music Through the Ages," volume II.
